Brendan Benson's debut,
One Mississippi, is a flurry of catchy, succinct, guitar-driven pop/rock songs that went largely unnoticed upon its release, sending it to a purgatory of supposed 'lost masterpieces'. While I wouldn't go
that far, I do think it's a memorable, inspired, adrenaline-shot of an album that more people, especially fans of power pop, should hear.

I still feel pain each time I hear my name
You're so right. Why this isn't better known and loved I cannot figure out. I recall hearing about it on the CBC (public radio here in Canada) and going immediately to buy it, loving the Bowie/Big Star combination in the songs. The next one (Lapalco) is also mighty. Thanks for maybe tipping some folks off to a real treat.
