Classic early Norwegian funeral doom. Full of harmonized guitars and classically-inspired acoustic bits,
Tragedies' crushing emotional center is lead vocalist Toril Snyen's perfectly melancholic, angelic performance. I think it's one of the greatest doom metal albums ever recorded. I'm also stuck in bed with some sort of stomach sickness that I'm hoping isn't H1N1.
Track listing:
1. Taarene
2. Under Ebony Shades
3. Demise
4. When Nightfall Clasps
5. Moment in Black

I loathe the presence of God

ReplyDeletedo they actually say "i loathe the presence of god"..? cuz that's a great line
ReplyDeleteThey certainly do, in "Under Ebony Shades"
Deleteboy you really brought a big boner into my life by introducing me to this band. Is you got "to mourn is a virtue"...? Thanks for all this stuff
ReplyDeleteYou know I do. Have you listened to "Oratorium" yet? Lemme know if not and I can post that, too, shit is epic.

ReplyDeleteIt's thus far the latest Funeral record. Came out in 2012. Definitely an extension of the "From These Wounds" sound.

what wonderful times these are
ReplyDeleteholy crap! go oratorium!
ReplyDeleteAnyone heard Funeral's latest "Praesentalis In Aeternum?" Thoughts? I feel like it is their best release since "From These Wounds," imo.
ReplyDeleteNO I didn't even know it existed, thank you!!
DeleteYeah , they really lean into the symphonic orchestral elements on their latest. Glad to hear the death metal-style growls return as well. Thankfully, none of the lyrics are in English, all Norwegian this time around. The extended version includes a killer interpretation of Candlemass' "Samarithan." I definitely recommend! Best funeral doom metal album of 2021, imo.
