John Taylor, Norma Winston, & Kenny Wheeler - Azimuth (1977)

Glorious ambient jazz from keyboardist John Taylor, trumpeter/flugelhorn-player Kenny Wheeler, and vocalist Norma Winstone. Lush, enveloping, transportive sounds. One of my top 10 favorite ECM records, for sure.

Track listing:
1. Sirens' Song
2. O
3. Azimuth
4. The Tunnel
5. Greek Triangle
6. Jacob

Traveling forever in the dark
Darkness into blackness
Then back
It's always black

More along these lines:

Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays -

Wichita Falls
(1982)

  1. Wow this is classic ECM! Innovative and accessible music but def out of the syrupy landscape of George Benson's and Spyro Gyra's! The released one in a trilogy of early releases with Ralph Towner. All three of this projects early releases are equally beautiful the later stuff doesnt apply!

  3. Thank you for this and the Pat Metheny. You've got to give ECM credit for being mostly about the art.

  8. Thank you kind sir. I'm sitting around on a cold, wet, overcast day, which has been the norm. This will help lift the spirits.
