A gorgeous, shimmering hybrid of ethereal dream pop/shoegaze, black metal, and post-metal from Norwegian artist Kathrine Shepard. Now that I think about it, there are traces of Mandylion-era The Gathering in there, too. Also, is it just me or does the first track sound like that really sad song that Pippin sings in Return of the King while people get brutally slaughtered?

I normally hate this style, but this particular Sylvaine album takes me back to when the Amesoeurs full-length was released and people weren't scrambling to ape the then-weird-and-niche "black metal shoegaze" style. On "Wistful", Kathrine did a great job concentrating on melody and results in a very pop-oriented release. I hope she sticks with that approach.
ReplyDeleteDamn, I haven't thought about Amesoeurs in a minute, that was my shit! Yep, a whole lotta boring albums have been made in this style, but this is def one of the good ones.
