Forest of Shadows - Where Dreams Turn to Dust (2000)

Previously on OPIUM HUM:

Forest of Shadows - Six Waves of Woe (2008)

To mark the start of fall, and to celebrate my having just now found out that Forest of Shadows actually, finally put out another album back in 2018, here's their absolute masterpiece of a demo-turned-debut-EP, Where Dreams Turn to Dust. Sorrowful, atmospheric melodic doom at its finest.

Track listing:

1. Eternal Autumn

2. Wish

3. Of Sorrow Blue

Before my tear-filled eyes

This withering beauty, this eternal autumn

So silent, so silent

More beautifully crushing misery:

Funeral - From These Wounds (2006)

The Fall of Every Season - Amends (2013)

Forest of Shadows - Six Waves of Woe (2008)

Second official full-length from this Swedish melodic doom act, a solo project of Niclas Frohagen. Mostly mid-paced tempos, with lush, heavy walls of guitar and keyboard that build to massive moments of catharsis before receding to valleys of dejection. Frohagen employs an emotive, rock-like vocal approach for a great deal of the record, but when the death growls come, they hit hard. My only complaint? He still hasn't made a follow-up.

Track listing:
1. Submission
2. Selfdestructive
3. Detached
4. Moments in Solitude
5. Pernicious
6. Deprived

Wings of liberty fell dead
