Gastr del Sol - Camoufleur (1998)

Oval - Systemisch (1994)

Final and IMO best album from this stellar experimental indie/post-rock outfit of David Grubbs and Jim O'Rourke, featuring (on this record) Markus Popp of Oval. Acoustic guitars, horns, strings, understated vocals, keyboards, piano, and electronic textures form a beautiful, elusive sound. As a go-to early morning listen, Camofleur provided the soundtrack to many opening shifts at my old record store job.

Track listing:
1. The Seasons Reverse
2. Blues Subtitled No Sense of Wonder
3. Black Horse
4. Each Dream Is an Example
5. Mouth Canyon
6. A Puff of Dew
7. Bauchredner

Oval - Systemisch (1994)

It's my day off, and I'm stoned and nostalgic, so let's take it back to some of the first abstract electronic music I ever heard. A masterpiece of beautifully nervous ambient glitch created using strategically damaged CDs and fragmented samples. Systemisch blew a lot of people's minds back in the day, and remains one of the most influential records of its kind -- not to mention a personal all-time favorite.

Track listing:
1. Textuell
2. Aero Deck
3. The Politics of Digital Audio
4. Schöner Wissen
5. Catchy DAAD
6. Mediaton
7. Tonregie
8. Oval Office
9. Compact Disc
10. Post-Post
11. Gabba Nation
