Oval - Systemisch (1994)

It's my day off, and I'm stoned and nostalgic, so let's take it back to some of the first abstract electronic music I ever heard. A masterpiece of beautifully nervous ambient glitch created using strategically damaged CDs and fragmented samples. Systemisch blew a lot of people's minds back in the day, and remains one of the most influential records of its kind -- not to mention a personal all-time favorite.

Track listing:
1. Textuell
2. Aero Deck
3. The Politics of Digital Audio
4. Schöner Wissen
5. Catchy DAAD
6. Mediaton
7. Tonregie
8. Oval Office
9. Compact Disc
10. Post-Post
11. Gabba Nation

In the stream of commerce

    1. Besides all the incredible music I discovered through your blog (this Oval release included), I also first heard of kratom here, and wanted to thank you - I guess here in Brazil it is not a widely known plant (so good to see you post someone born here, like Deodato, Gil, etc hehehe). I'm not very much of a weed fan, it just kinda brings me down, and kratom has never done that, it uplifts me in a very nice way, and indeed it is much more music-apreciating suited than weed, at least for me. But I don't know if I ever have felt like stoned or high on kratom, how much do you usually take? Anyways, incredible blog. Have you ever heard Belchior? A brazilian singersongwriter whose record "Alucinação", for me, has some of the finest brazilian music.

    2. Hey Arthur, sorry for the delayed response, I often approve comments while I'm at work and unable to respond, then forget to do so later. I don't really measure, and often am just trying to get a nice lil buzz, but I think something like 3 tablespoons is what's recommended to actually get high (are tablespoons a thing in Brazil or is it another dumb American thing?) I haven't heard Belchior, will for sure check out that record, thanks!!

    3. Yeah, we have tablespoons here, but they are called "colher de sopa", which translates to something like "spoon for soup", although they are rarely used to eat soup. I generally take much less than that (but I also do not measure), but have tried something like 2 tablespoons and got pretty nauseated - though when the nausea went away I was indeed in a pretty mellow state. Guess that with more than that I would end throwing up.

  3. Love Oval! (and any Markus Popp) I have the entire discography but felt like commenting ;) -Same with your Dälek post. In fact that post had me wondering if you are a fan of people like Prefuse 73 (the great Scott Herren), Deceptikon, edIT, Xela, Machine Drum, Beans, Anti-Pop Consortium, Exillon, Epstein, and so on...

I'm certain you know Prefuse 73, and well the list of instrumental hiphop/triphop/underground hiphop/experimental etc. that I could compile is huge.

If you don't know edIT, his 2004 "Crying Over Pros For No Reason" is an album you'd treasure. I'm happy to locate it or anything else for you if you'd like an upload!

Just checked and edIT's 2004 album (Planet Mu) was re-released in 2014 on some other label, give
    a fkn listen!!: https://editbeats.bandcamp.com/album/crying-over-pros-for-no-reason-deluxe-edition

Again - if you're interested in ANY uploads I'd be happy to - any time

Let me know what you think (or if you already have all the above mentioned)

    Cheers!

    1. Of those, I am familiar with Prefuse 73, Deceptikon, Machine Drum, Antipop Consortium/Beans, and Xela (I have a draft for a post on For Frosty Mornings buried in the blog archives somewhere.) Everything else, I don't think I've ever heard, and any links you send my way would be greatly appreciated!
