Loren Mazzacane-Connors & Alan Licht - Hoffman Estates (1998)

Previously on OPIUM HUM:
Loren Mazzacane & Kath Bloom - Sing the Children Over (1982)

By request, here's this excellent collection of woozy, avant-jazz-psych-etc. In addition to the two musicians listed on the tin, you get contributions from a bunch of great Chicago musicians, not the least of which are from Jim O'Rourke, who played on the initial sessions, then edited them down and added overdubs.

Track listing:
1. Slowly, Slowly, Slowly
2. Block That Nixon
3. Sad at Times
4. Wisdom Day
5. Peace Scare
6. Turner's Murder
7. And Everyone 'Neath Their Vine and Fig Tree Shall Live in Peace

Gastr del Sol - Camoufleur (1998)

Related:
Oval - Systemisch (1994)

Final and IMO best album from this stellar experimental indie/post-rock outfit of David Grubbs and Jim O'Rourke, featuring (on this record) Markus Popp of Oval. Acoustic guitars, horns, strings, understated vocals, keyboards, piano, and electronic textures form a beautiful, elusive sound. As a go-to early morning listen, Camofleur provided the soundtrack to many opening shifts at my old record store job.

Track listing:
1. The Seasons Reverse
2. Blues Subtitled No Sense of Wonder
3. Black Horse
4. Each Dream Is an Example
5. Mouth Canyon
6. A Puff of Dew
7. Bauchredner

Jim O'Rourke - Bad Timing (1997)

A gorgeous, surprisingly straightforward album of raga-like, fingerpicked acoustic guitar-based instrumentals from experimental music icon Jim O'Rourke. Fleshed out here and there by piano, organ, vibraphone, French horn, trumpet, violin, and pedal steel.

Track listing:
1. There's Hell in Hello, But More in Goodbye
2. 94 the Long Way
3. Bad Timing
4. Happy Trails

They brought me here cause I can't take care
