Michael Hoenig - Departure from the Northern Wasteland (1978)

One of the greatest, most engaging pure synth records I've had the pleasure of hearing. Elaborate, sprawling compositions made up of a seemingly endless array of synth voices.

Track listing:
1. Departure from the Northern Wasteland
2. Hanging Garden Transfer
3. Voices of Where
4. Sun and Moon

Bones on the beach

More synth worlds:

Anna Själv Tredje -
Tussilago Fanfara (1977)
Ray Lynch -
Deep Breakfast (1984)

  1. What with the plethora of synth stuff that gets aired on the mighty 'Hum, I find it curious that no Synergy has made its way here. Neither complaint nor request, just observation. Thank you for all you do here.

  2. Great post, everyone who hasn't heard Departure should grab it asap!

Synergy - Larry Fast? I remember having 'Cords' on a blue cassette, and really enjoying the sound palette & tunes.

  3. @Alan Burns:
Yes, Larry Fast. I had Cords and Sequencer both on clear vinyl. I recall preferring Cords, in that it sounded a bit more menacing. That's relative though, as Synergy skewed more toward the new agey melodic end of things than, say, Tangerine Dream. At least to my ear.

  4. I bought the album while tripping hard on Superman at the Schlitz Blues Festival in Memphis in 1981 and considered it a lucky find because only one other friend had it. This is great stuff. I had lots by Tangerine Dream and the original 3-album set of Woodstock (still have) and my friends were flower children of that time. I had this album up on YouTube but that Channel was recently suspended. I am putting it up again on m y new Channel. This is an album you don't need any 'shrooms to enjoy but it will make you feel like somebody slipped you something.I stopped all the wild stuff in my early 20's but carry the memories of good times. These days I sit beneath the trees listening to Departure From The Northern Wasteland at the river on a big bluetooth speaker!
