Previously on OPIUM HUM:
Steven Halpern - Spectrum Suite (1976)
Georgia Kelly - Seapeace (Music for Harp) (1978)
Steven Halpern & Dallas Smith - Natural Light (1984)
Quietly stunning new age sounds from synth-man Steve Halpern and harpist Georgia Kelly. Filled out with a bit of flute and haunting, wordless vocals. I put this on the other day at the record store, and I'm just sitting there vibing when my coworker asks what we're listening to. I say, "Oh, just a little new age, you know," cause I'm the only one who works there who likes new age so I know she doesn't give a shit about either artist and she goes, "Oh, nevermind, I thought it was the Zelda soundtrack."

internet strangers appreciate your fondness for new age. thanks as always
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot. So you work at a record store, it sounds like an incredible one considering you share music from your arrivals there. May I ask which one it is? Easily the record store I want to visit the most now haha. Cheers. Fellow record store clerk here.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually not the best record store tbh. We have shit tons of records (and other stuff) so if you have the time to dig and know where to look you can find plenty of really good shit, but our buying model is tailor-made for people who just want to dump off a huge amount of records that they don't really care about -- and what we pay people for their stuff reflects that -- so people who actually know/care about what they have are often inclined to sell their stuff elsewhere. Having said all that, I probably shouldn't say which one it is, shoot me an email and I'll tell you haha
DeleteFunny how new age got such a shellacking back in the day when David Lanz and the ilks of Yanni where racking in the big bucks! The lesser knowns the Halpern, Iasos,(even Steve Roach was never heard on n.a. radio!) etc which was the music I was particularly interested in since they where from the US where never played on n/a radio but their music had so much more genuine depth and substance. Thanks for sharing this audio gold with us!
ReplyDeleteAny chance you can re-upload?
