Strid - Strid (2007)

OK, on to the post. Strid is/was (according to Metal Archives, they're active, despite not having released any new material since 1994) a Norwegian black metal band considered by some to be highly influential in the sub-subgenre of depressive black metal. This compilation is composed of their only two releases, the 1993 End of Life demo and a self-titled EP released the following year, along with all of the material recorded under their previous moniker, Malfeitor. The Strid material is slow and sickly - it's easy to hear echoes of this material in the music of artists like Xasthur and Make a Change - while the Malfeitor material is, at the risk of being reductive, good, but somewhat standard lo-fi black metal.
