Roger Powell - Cosmic Furnace (1973)

Todd Rundgren - Initiation (1975)

Energetic, jazz-tinted synth jams from Roger Powell, who's perhaps best known as a member of Todd Rundgren's Utopia. A true synth pioneer, Powell mastered the art of using the synthesizer to mimic the sounds of other instruments, such as guitar, saxophone, and flute.

Track listing:
1. Ictus (The Primordial Pulse)
2. Lumia (Dance of the Nebulae)
3. Fourneau Cosmique (The Alchemical Furnace of Cleopatra)
4. Hermetic Enigma (The Fixed Volatile (The Answer Is But Another Riddle))
5. Queene Enfineska (Serenity of the Lion in Summer)
6. Tensegrity (A Dymaxion Triptych)

  1. Stone cold timeless synth music. Theres stuff in there on the verge of fusion and timbres few would mimic! I believe he was a ARP representative hence his penchant for use mainly ARP synths. Nice post!

    1. "timbres few would mimic"

Until about 7 or 8 years later, when you could get most of 'em out of a $50 Casio VL-1 instead of a pile of stuff that took up most of a room, lol.

Don't get me wrong - I love this album too. But it is what it is.

    2. Beg to differ as I am a musician BUT everyone has a right to their opinion and if you listen well you would nice the timbres are rich and warm something a Casio is incapable of. Then again I have years of experience in the music composing world.
