Esoteric - The Pernicious Enigma (1997)
A dense, terrifying record. Maybe the greatest modern doom metal record? A murky ocean of dissonant guitars, cavernous drums, screeching feedback, and warped synthesizer, through which cut disturbing movie samples and otherworldly guttural growls. The Pernicious Enigma kinda makes me feel like it's a wrap on the genre; like, who the fuck is going to make a better doom metal record than this?

Bona fide classic. If not the greatest modern doom metal record it's strangling the one that is.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely one of the greatest doom metal albums out. The beginning 20 secs of A Worthless Dream is some of the most existence crushing music I've ever heard in my life.
