Minimal, sparse experimental sounds. The half-hour-plus title track is dedicated to then-recently deceased composer
Iannis Xenakis, and is composed of dissonant strings, manipulated sources, and field recordings. "Haiku for Mu" is built on recordings of Günter's dog sleeping. A real party-starter, this one.
Track listing:
1. Crossing the River (Night Music)
2. Haiku for Mu
Gradually the blinding sunset drained from the glass, darkened, and it was as if snow were falling there, flakes shaping snow-eyes, hair: a face trembled like a white beautiful moth, smiled. She beckoned to him, shining and silver, and he knew he must go: unafraid, not hesitating, he paused only at the garden's edge where, as though he'd forgotten something, he stopped and looked back at the bloomless, descending blue, at the boy he had left behind.

Love love love Bernhard and this level of intense minimal stuff and just never see it get any shout outs. Not the easiest sell of course. Have you listened to Francisco Lopez? Equally as beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo very glad to see you're back, and at the same time so very sorry for your recent loss of a notable person from your life. It makes me feel good & puts a smile on my face, however, that as I read your description of your Bernhard Gunter posting you maintain your at-times sharp sardonic humor; humor that us fans so definitely enjoy! If I may quote from the great lyricist Robert Hunter, "...Nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile." Peace :)
ReplyDeletetbh, it sounds like my kind of party :)
ReplyDeleteI have this CD. Thanks for reminding me and thanks for the post!
