Blood of the Black Owl - A Banishing Ritual (2010)

A heady fusion of dark psych, Pagan neofolk and blackened drone-doom. Dissonant monoliths of sound worthy of latter-day Swans broken up by flashes of crushing, pitch-black caveman sludge. It's borderline criminal that it took me so long to post this.

Track listing:
1. Intent
2. The Statement of Will
3. Chant of the Captured Spirit
4. The Final Banishing

  1. On a somewhat related note, I'm afraid that the singer of thy serpent is a nazi now:

    1. Great question, impossible to answer. So if we say that there are three main eras -- noise rock, mid-era (Children of God through breakup), and post-reunion -- I tend to gravitate most towards the mid-era stuff. Top 3 Swans records for me are Soundtracks for the Blind, Swans Are Dead, and Cop. I like the reunion stuff but, aside from seeing it performed live, I've never quite connected with it the way a lot of people do.

  4. I love everything from this group and label. Truly transcendental stuff. Makes great casual listening, but it's something else when you sit with intention and make an effort to feel it go through you. Fantastic.
