Acrimony - Tumuli Shroomaroom (1997)

I'd like to start by acknowledging the alien-Buddha in the room. Yes, it has a beard. Yes, it looks more like something you'd see on a comp of didgeridoo-driven trance than on a metal album. However, stoner-doom metal this is, and really good stoner-doom at that. It's significantly less cheesy in execution than it is in presentation. And there's only a little bit of didgeridoo. I humbly ask that you trust me, maybe take a bonghit or two if that's your thing, and give ol' Tumuli Shroomaroom a spin.

Track listing:
1. Hymns to the Stone
2. Million Year Summer
3. Turn the Page
4. Vŷ
5. Find the Path
6. The Bud Song
7. Motherslug (The Mother of All Slugs)
8. Heavy Feather
9. Firedance

  1. this was in Kerrang's top albums of 1997. Then subsequently dropped into obscurity forever. Great riffs and chunky production despite the bong arse artwork.

    1. Wow, didn't know Kerrang repped it. I've literally never heard anyone talk about this album outside of the internet.

  5. To add to the curiousness of the cover art...isn't that a vague outline of Africa on the chest of said bearded-alien-Buddha?

    1. Good god. I was trying to place it and damned if that's not it. What in the absolute shit were they thinking with this? It's so over the top that I'm inclined to believe that they were maybe just taking the piss.

  6. Haha this used to be a go-to workout album for me. The final minute of "Hymns to the Stone" has some top tier stoner-y "Yeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhh"s. Could never really get into the later stuff they did as Sigiriya.
