Malaria! - Emotion (1982)

Excellent German coldwave from an all-female group that never really got their due. I've had a number of time-consuming projects over the past few days so I really don't have the energy to do a proper write-up at the moment. But this is what I'm listening to right now, and it's really, really good.

Track listing:
1. Geld - Money
2. Leidenschaft - Passion
3. Eifersucht - Jealousy
4. Einsam - Lonesome
5. Macht - Power
6. Tod - Death
7. Mensch
8. Slave
9. Traum - Dream
10. Gewissen

  2. Bought this brand new 40 years ago. How old am I? For some decadent German synth cabaret, check out Hamburg chick Mona Mur (Sabine Bredy, of Polish descent) and her self-titled 1988 debut LP, produced by Dieter Meier of Yello, and with Dave Greenfield and Jean-Jacques Burnel of The Stranglers playing keys and bass, respectively. Most songs are own compositions, but she's no Nico. Anyway, it ends with a classic Brecht/Weill song, 'Surabaya Johnny', with a little help from little drummer boy F.M. Einheit (Einstürzende Nebauten, whom I saw the first time in 1981 or 1982, when they still used a jackhammer and a chainsaw on stage...).

I see last year's Deluxe CD release has 5 extra tracks; Among them the cold war wish for "A Bit of Peace" - 'Ein Bißchen Frieden', the winner of the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest (with 17-year-old German Nicole and an acoustic guitar). Since you have your own contest in the US now, it might be interesting (?) to know that Eastern €Urope for a while had their own yearly contest (sort of...) in the Polish beach resort Sopot (between Gdansk and Gdynia)...yada yada, yada.

    Dziękuję,
    J.
