Juno - A Future Lived in Past Tense (2001)

Adventurous, expansive indie rock/post-hardcore/post-rock from Seattle. Juno probably was very important to a number of people, and I can only imagine how hard they would have blown my mind if I'd seen them live, but unfortunately, I only found out about them a few months ago.

Track listing:
1. A Thousand Motors Pressed upon the Heart
2. Covered with Hair
3. When I Was in ________
4. Help Is on the Way
5. The Trail of Your Blood in the Snow
6. The French Letter
7. Up Through the Night
8. Things Gone and Things Still Here (We'll Need the Machine-Guns by Next March)
9. We Slept in Rented Rooms (The Old School Bush)
10. You Are the Beautiful Conductor of This Orchestra
11. Killing It in a Quiet Way
12. [untitled]
13. I'm Sorry You're Having Trouble... Goodbye

  1. Juno put on the best live show I ever saw in the living room at Kansas House (Arlington VA). I wept.

    1. RE: Live: Really wish I was there. Listening to their records, you can just tell that seeing them live must have been a transcendent experience. And I love that song and and album as well, just have listened to this one a few more times.

  4. The one guitarist, Arlie Carstens(sp?)wrote record reviews for a skateboard mag whose name now escapes me. Juno also did a banging cover of High Noon on a split 7" many years ago. They were big enough at one point to be on tour with Rival Schools, Thursday and Sparta in the very early 00s. The jam Leave A Clean Camp and A Dead Fire off their other record is epic. Cinematic even...

  5. Saw them open for the Dismemberment Plan in Richmond VA 2001, they stole the show, made me a fan ever since. Disbanded far too soon.

  6. After Juno, singer/guitarist Arlie Carstens went on to work with audio engineer and songwriting partner Eric Fisher. Their band is called Atoms and Void. 2016 LP, "And Nothing Else," features session players from many other bands, including past members of Juno. It is epic. Streaming and downloads, atomsandvoid-dot-com. Vinyl, Arctic Rodeo. YouTube, videos.
