Anubi - Kai Pilnaties Akis Užmerks Mirtis (1997)

IN WHICH: Driven by a primal desire to make really fucked up music, a group of Lithuanian metalheads throws skronking saxophone, half-baked free jazz piano clanks, prog-y keyboards, fiddle, and other unorthodox musical elements at what already would be a really warped take on black metal. Honestly, the first time I heard this I was mashing at the stop button within two minutes, but the second time around, everything fell into place.

EDIT: Here's their EP, Sutemus Skambės.

Track listing:
1. Savo kelyje
2. Kai pilnaties akis užmerks mirtis
3. Mirtis
4. Kai pilnaties akis užmerks mirtis II
5. Gyvenimo kritimą dovanosim krankliui
6. Į naują galybę
7. Ir saulė neteko savo pusės veido
8. Ozirio adventas
9. Folklorinė daina apie mirtį
10. Iš tuštumos į akmens tylą
11. Tarp akmens ir veidrodžio

A horrible death

  1. This album is a total masterpiece of under-rated BLACK METAL in the true Spirit of the term. One wonder what the second album would have been like...

  2. Dear DEAR_SPIRIT: I thank you from the depths of my heart for your investigative work and the posts of this blog. It's not just the unmatched quality of the albums posted or the fact that I had not heard 95% of the stuff before coming to your humble digital home; it is also the reviewing style which is minimal and concise as well as the semi-schizophrenic change in mood (from black metal to berlin school electronics and from smooth jazz to psychedelic funk) that clearly makes this blog the best thing in existence in the observable universe.
