Across Tundras - Western Sky Ride (2008)

Desert-baked post-sludge. Strung-out, twangy stoner riffs, grainy guitar tones, and distant, reverb-soaked vocals. A similar kinda Americana-doom feel as Hex-era Earth, but much more dynamic and immediate. This and everything else this band has put out, plus the vocalist's solo records, are all available for pay-as-you-will on their bandcamp, so have at it -- this was just my introduction to the band, and it's my favorite.

Track listing:
1. Carrion Crow
2. Thunderclap Stomp
3. Low the Daystar Hangs
4. Badlands Blues (Dyin' Days)
5. Follow Me to the San Luis
6. Song of the Sullen Plains
7. Run with the Wolves
8. Two Black Clouds
9. Gallows Pole

Cosmic retribution

  1. Great album - love Tanner's use of whistling throughout - but not my favorite Across Tundras. Maybe it's just a nostalgia thing, but "Dark Songs of the Prairie" really hits me in the right spot. You ever check Tanner's old band The Spirit of Versailles?
