CLOSED FOR MOURNING

In the world of music nerdery, today should be a day for Bowie and Bowie alone. I recommend listening to Blackstar, in which Bowie creates a true late-career masterpiece before signing off like a fucking champion. Or if you're in the mood for nostalgia, I'll get you started below.

Goodnight Sweet Thin White Duke.

  1. Just finished listening to Blackstar for the first time about half an hour ago. It really is a stunning work. Need to hear it a few more times, along with revisiting his classics from the 70s. It's hard to know what we'll do without you, Starman... but you belong to the universe now...

  2. Was minded to pick up Blackstar at the end of the month, but buying it straight away now. By all accounts (including yours), he's left us on a stonking high in creative terms.

Great tribute with all your vid links - perfect reminder that there was greatness in every era.

    Farewell, Great Dame.

  3. im with you on this dude. I fell asleep last night listening to Blackstar (3rd listen) and woke up this morning to a text from my mate telling me the sad sad news. I really couldnt believe it. back in the days when i was on Facebook i had my religion down as 'Bowie'. I went on a pilgrimage to Berlin twice to stand outside Hansa studios and get my photo taken beaming like a fool and went to see the doorway to the flat that him and Iggy shared. My other email address is thin.white.duke@.....
5 years ago I got the Low album cover photo as a tattoo on my back. Bowie was one of my greatest inspirations and heroes and idols...i really wasnt expecting this day....not now.

  4. Was almost out the door for work today when I found out. Fought back the tears for a half hour, but then I just lost it. Went to the back office, locked the door and cried like a baby. First Lemmy and now Bowie!!! -Britt
