Tenebrae in Perpetuum's first full-length -- and one of my favorite black metal records -- Onori Funebri Rituali has a haunting, mysterious feel and sound, but never diverges from the path of purest, blackest metal.

Track listing:
1. Onori Funebri Rituali
2. Al Di La Della Nebbia
3. Verso L'Apocalisse
4. Oscure Presenze
5. Anime Silenziose
6. Delirio Nella Cripta

  1. Hey there - question for you. Let's say you met someone who had NO IDEA what you are talking about in terms of metal. Death Metal, Black Metal, Doom Metal, etc. - whatevs. And they asked you for a listening guide - what would you list? For the sake of simplicity - because metal heads tend to be fuckin' JESUITICAL in their definitions and splinterings - we'll just say three of each What would you say are the three best exemplar / albums of each Genre? Say: Death Metal, Black Metal, Doom Metal, Drone Metal, and another of your choice.

    1. OK, here's what I came up with after very little consideration. Each of these is a (relatively) early 'classic' of their subgenre.

      BLACK METAL:
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
      Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger
      Burzum - Filosofem

      DEATH METAL:
Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
      Incantation - Diabolical Conquest
      Suffocation - Pierced from Within

      DOOM METAL:
      Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Thergothon - Stream from the Heavens
      Katatonia - Brave Murder Day

      DRONE:
      Earth - Earth 2
      Sunn O))) - 00 Void
      Boris - Amplifer Worship

      How 'bout SLUDGE?
      Grief - Come to Grief
      Eyehategod - Come to Grief
      Noothgrush - Erode the Person

      Hope this helps!

    3. WTF two years later I just noticed my mistake: the Eyehategod album was probably meant to be Take as Needed for Pain.

  2. Where´s Saint Vitus, Trouble and Pentagram in the Doomlist?
    Thergothon is killer though!!!
    cheers

    1. These aren’t necessarily my top 3 doom metal albums, just good representatives for their respective schools of doom metal.
