Growing - His Return (2005)

Before they went the way of the bleepy-bloop, I thought of Growing as the bright, euphoric alternative to Sunn O)))'s crushing darkness. Both dealt in enveloping, high-volume walls of drone, but Growing preferred major chords, used both guitars and keyboards, and entirely avoided riffs, resulting in an intensely joyful but centered sound that would be an appropriate soundtrack to dying and ascending to some unnamed, blissful eternity. His Return was their last record done in this style, and contains some of their greatest work, including their only song (of which I'm aware) with lead vocals.

Track listing:
1. In the Shadow of the Mountain
2. Freedom Towards Death
3. Wide Open

Epochal reminiscence
